Frequently asked questions
What is RightTrack?
RightTrack is a program that puts you in control of your auto policy savings by evaluating your safe driving habits. After you enroll, simply download and drive. The app will observe your driving habits to customize your rate at each renewal based on the driving score of all participating drivers on your policy. Safe drivers can earn savings up to 30%, while risky drivers may see a price increase.Once you enroll in RightTrack, you will immediately receive a participation discount of up to 15% on your auto policy. Participating drivers on your policy will need to download the Liberty Mutual mobile app and register. Then, all you have to do is drive as you normally would. The app will determine your RightTrack score and apply it to your policy at each renewal. The combination of your participation discount and your RightTrack score may result in a premium increase or decrease based on your driving.
Where is RightTrack available?
RightTrack that let's you participate for as long as you want to is available in NM and WI as of November 18, 2024.Customers in most states can participate in the RightTrack 90-day program. New York customers can participate in the RightTrack Plug-in program. RightTrack is not available in all states.
Which driving behaviors does RightTrack observe?
The driving behaviors observed by RightTrack include things like hard braking, phone usage, time of day, and speed. Is there a cost association with the program?
The app is free, but similar to other apps on your phone, it uses data. Applicable data charges will be the responsibility of the smartphone owner. How is my overall score calculated?
We calculate your policy driving score based the driving behavior and risk factors of all participating drivers on your policy. The impact that RightTrack has on your premium is calculated using a combination of your policy driving score and participation at each policy renewal. This can result in a price increase or decrease, based on your driving
Will the score transfer when I add or replace a vehicle on my policy?
Yes. If you change or add new vehicles at any point, we will apply your RightTrack score to those vehicles. Please contact our service team for assistance with changing or adding vehicles. Can I opt-out of RightTrack?
Yes. Participating drivers can opt out at any time by contacting our service team. Your insurance coverage will continue, but your participation discount may change or be removed from your policy and your premium will be adjusted to reflect this change. If all participating drivers opt out within 45 days of signing up, you will lose your participation discount, but your RightTrack score(s) will not be used to calculate your premium at renewal. If a participating driver on your policy opts out after 45 days, your participation discount may change, and their RightTrack score will be used to calculate your premium at renewal. Participating drivers who opt out after 45 days OR are removed from the program because we weren't able to receive data from them for a period of 45 days may receive a non-fulfillment surcharge if there isn't enough driving behavior data for us to calculate a RightTrack score.
How much can I save?
Your policy’s participation, driving, and risk factors, determine whether your price goes up or down each policy term. Safe drivers can save up to 30%, while riskier driving behaviors can result in a price increase. When will I find out about my price changes?
You’ll find out your next term’s premium changes a little before your policy renews for another term. Your new rate will reflect the impacts of your participation in RightTrack, along with impacts of any additional factors that may influence your auto policy’s premium.- Can I use RightTrack on any phone?
To participate in RightTrack, you need a smartphone that has the following:- GPS location capabilities.
- An accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensors. Some Android phones don't have these features. iPads, tablets, and Windows phones are not compatible.
If your phone isn't compatible, you'll see an incompatibility message when you open the app.
Why is it important to monitor my trip categorization?
Only trips where you are the driver count toward your score. The app will accurately detect when you are the driver, but it's still a good idea to check the app periodically to make sure all trips are correctly categorized. What impact does the app have on my phone battery?
The amount of battery used depends on the model of your phone. The app uses about the same amount of battery as other driving navigation apps. We recommend charging your phone while driving if you're taking a long trip. Trip recording will automatically stop when your phone's battery life is at 20% and below or when battery save mode is on.How much data will the app use?
Data usage varies depending on the amount of engagement with the app. From a strictly trip-capture standpoint, the app uploads about 500-600KB of data per hour of driving. If you were to drive 1 hour/day for a month, it would equate to 18MB of data, a small fraction of a typical US data plan.
To minimize the amount of data the app uses, go to your RightTrack settings and toggle "Upload my trip data over Wi-Fi" on. This will only restrict data usage for sending your trips to us for processing. Your phone will still use data during trip capture.
How is my driving data used?

Once you enroll in RightTrack and download the app, you'll need to register using your Liberty Mutual online account information OR use the activation code from your welcome email. If you are not the primary driver, you will register using your activation code.Is my data continuously collected?
Does every driver on my policy need to download the app?
No, your driving data is only collected when the app detects vehicle movement. Your trip data might be delayed in uploading to the app when there is poor cellular data connection.
To maximize your savings potential, we encourage every driver on your policy to download the app and participate in RightTrack. However, only one driver must download the app to participate.
